Risk Assessments & Method Statements
Risk Assessments
Every company is under a statutory duty to carry out an assessment of risks present in its workplace.
If your company employs five people or more, the risk assessment must be in writing. Legislation requires that the assessment be carried out by a “competent person” and examine the entire company’s activities to identify any hazards involved, the likelihood of those hazards causing harm and the steps required to eliminate or minimise the risks.
The risk assessment should be reviewed periodically and whenever there are significant changes in the workplace.
PRM can arrange for a qualified safety practitioner to visit your premises and carry out a risk assessment study on your behalf.
Method Statements
All systems of work should be safe, but where the risk is such that unambiguous working instructions are necessary, the system of work should be in writing.
PRM can assist you with writing safe systems of work specific to the tasks or operations your company performs.
Safe systems of work or method statements are a considered method of working that takes into account the potential hazards to employees, and others such as visitors and contractors, and provides a formal framework to ensure that all steps necessary for safe working have been anticipated and implemented.
Where a safe system or method statement are required PRM will work closely with you to ensure you have a bespoke procedure.
Please contact PRM to discuss your requirements further and see how we can add value.
